St Mary’s Church is Harrow’s oldest building and one of its most iconic landmarks. With its hilltop location and centuries of history, the church has long been at the heart of the community. The name Harrow itself comes from the Anglo-Saxon word hearg, meaning a place of worship — a fitting tribute to a site that has served as a centre of local life for over 900 years.

Consecrated by St Anselm shortly after the Norman Conquest, St Mary’s may stand on an even older foundation: archaeological remains hint at a Saxon church predating the current one. Over the centuries, the church has borne witness to countless local stories and remains a place where history and heritage…
